Philippine Airlines has selected IBS Software’s cloud-based iCargo platform to replace its current cargo system. The implementation is intended to extend iCargo’s capabilities across the airline’s domestic and international cargo operations.
IBS Software will support Philippine Airlines’ modernisation programme with capabilities intended to support the full range of the carrier’s business functions. The platform will handle cargo movements in both domestic and international operations, including international requirements such as customs reporting, duties and taxes settlement and regulatory compliance.
According to the announcement, iCargo already supports carriers with the same mix of demands. It is positioned as offering the flexibility, scale and capabilities to manage both domestic and international cargo requirements. For Philippine Airlines, the transition is expected to address key operational requirements across its cargo operations, including system performance and data analytics.
Operational and compliance requirements
The replacement system is also intended to provide modern capabilities for faster shipment processing, greater reliability and end-to-end shipment visibility. The platform will reduce manual intervention and enable more efficient processes. Those objectives link the airline’s cargo modernisation effort to day-to-day handling, visibility and compliance tasks rather than to a single part of the operation.
The scope described in the announcement combines domestic and international cargo movements with customs reporting, duties and taxes settlement, and regulatory compliance. iCargo’s existing use by carriers with a similar combination of demands is presented as evidence of its flexibility and ability to manage both sets of requirements. The transition is also expected to support system performance and data analytics, which Philippine Airlines identifies as key operational requirements.
Airline cites visibility and efficiency
Jason Siy, vice president for cargo business at Philippine Airlines, described the initiative as an important step in the modernisation of the airline’s cargo business. He said that as the carrier grows across its domestic and international network, it needs a system that increases visibility, improves operational efficiency and enables it to deliver a better experience for customers.
Siy added that Philippine Airlines sees iCargo as a key enabler of its long-term cargo transformation strategy and of its ambition to build an even stronger cargo business for the future. The announcement frames the system replacement around those operational and strategic goals, while the implementation is set to extend iCargo across the airline’s domestic and international cargo operations.
The planned capabilities span shipment processing, reliability and visibility, with reduced manual intervention presented as part of the intended operating model. The implementation is also meant to support customs reporting, duties and taxes settlement and regulatory compliance alongside cargo movements, reflecting the dual domestic and international scope of the airline’s cargo business.
